There’s something beautiful about a dream that finally finds its foundation.
For a long time, HAYAQI existed entirely in motion—woven in the villages of Java, traveling across oceans, and dancing under desert festival skies. It moved in the luggage of curious adventurers, adapting to different climates and rhythms around the world. But every journey needs a home to return to. A place to gather its stories.
We have always believed that life is a ceremony. But sometimes, building the temple for that ceremony requires walking through the fire.
We are so incredibly grounded to announce that HAYAQI has officially opened the doors to its very first flagship retail store in the heart of Ubud, Bali. But getting here wasn't a straight path—it was a lesson in patience, resilience, and faith.

The Hardship Behind the Sanctuary
Our Ubud boutique is a humble space, but every corner of it was fought for. When we first took over the location, it was completely lifeless, drained of character, and masked in harsh, unflattering lighting. We set out to turn it into a cozy, inviting sanctuary that mirrored the organic, minimal, and wabi-sabi aesthetic of our threads.
Then, the universe tested our resolve.
We pushed through the relentless downpours of the Bali monsoons and kept going through the quiet, demanding days of Ramadan. In the middle of it all, our contractor suddenly ran away, leaving us to pick up the pieces. Every single day became a puzzle of solving unexpected problems, managing delays, and pushing our opening date back not just once, but twice.
Up until the very last hour before opening, we didn't even have a front door. We scrambled to install a temporary one just in time to welcome our first guests. But the drama didn't end there—as the sun set on our very first day, half of that temporary door collapsed, nearly injuring a guest.
It was a chaotic, humbling journey. But just when we felt the weight of the struggle, the island offered its deep magic.

Honouring the Land & The Blessing of Purnama
To truly build a home in Bali, we knew we had to respect the spirits and the traditional customs of the land we now stand upon. Before welcoming the world, we held a proper, sacred Balinese Hindu blessing ceremony inside the space. Led by a highly respected local priest and his wife, we made offerings and prayed to honor the rich local tradition, intentionally weaving our roots and deepening our relationship with Bali.
The universe answered almost immediately. On the rescheduled day we finally opened our doors, the streets of Ubud came alive. We were blessed by a vibrant, spontaneous parade of Balinese locals honoring Purnama—the sacred full moon. As the ceremonial music and offerings passed our storefront, we felt an overwhelming, surprising wave of confirmation. It was as if the island itself was telling us: You are exactly where you need to be.

Gratitude to our Guests
Our community showed up in waves. Our friends filled the humble space with laughter, flowers, and pure support. Nobody cared about the missing door or the chaotic weeks behind us; instead, they were deeply in love with the energy of the sanctuary. They felt the soul we poured into the walls.

Weaving with Light: The Art of Dianyst
Beyond the physical threads and terracotta walls, we wanted the sanctuary to breathe with movement. To bring this to life, we collaborated with Dianyst, a visionary local projection artist who helped us reimagine the space. Dian took the ancient, mythical motifs woven into our tenun ikat clothing and digitally transformed them, mapping the intricate geometries directly onto the architecture of the shop. By weaving with light instead of thread, Dian's immersive piece cast a luminous, shape-shifting glow over the room—blurring the lines between physical textile and digital dreaming, and showing that our heritage is a living, evolving story.
